Join us for the 1st annual
Shelton Clean Sweep
An Earth Day event, the week of April 22!
See photos of clean-ups
(note the map feature).
THANK YOU everyone who participated! Most of the 40 registered events have taken place and we are contacting registrants to find out how much litter was picked up (preliminary estimate is 300 large bags plus assorted debris). We are also looking for more photos.
But it's not over yet!! May 3 is the big Housatonic River cleanup organized by Clean Sound and Harbor Valley. Meet at Sunnyside Boat ramp anytime between 8:00 and 4:00. First 100 people get a free T-shirt. Boat will shuttle people up and down the river.
Note on Landkeeper patches: These patches are offered by the Conservation Commission for projects on City Open Space. The Commission had decided to distribute the patches free of charge to Clean Sweep participants in 2008 to reward participation in this first annual event, even on properties that normally would not qualify, such as school properties or ballfields. To receive the patches email the Conservation Agent at conservation@cityofshelton.org with the number of patches you need, the area cleaned, and the amount of trash collected.
-------
Civic groups, businesses and individuals: Choose a place that's littered, organize a group, pick a day, and then register your clean-up event (week of April 22). We'll help you through the steps. Our Clean Sweep will be capped off on May 3 by Clean Sound's Housatonic River Clean-up at Sunnyside Boat Launch.
The expression "clean sweep" signifies a clean slate or fresh new start. Let's clean our streets, parks, school grounds and shorelines this April and then keep them clean.
Scouting groups can earn a free Shelton Landkeeper patch if they clean city open space property.
Clean Sweep sponsors include Trans-Clean Corporation, Sears Hardware, and CT Waste Transfer. Thank you!
